LINCOLN, RI (Dec. 2, 2010) – Ending a bitter feud that’s lasted a year, Dany “The Upgrade” Lauzon (14-4-0) only needed 1:54 to force rival Damien “The Omen” Trites into tapping out by way of a guillotine, headlining tonight’s “Snow Brawl” professional mixed-martial-arts card at Twin River Event Center in Lincoln, Rhode Island. “Snow Brawl” was presented by Jimmy Burchfield’s CES MMA, in association with Twin River.
“It was very satisfying,” Lauzon said after the fight. “There was big hype – he hates me, I have him. I don’t hate him, I don’t even care…he’s a clown. It’s squashed. The plan was to be patient. We knew he’d come out fighting angry. My team kept me calm. I could see it in the cage. He came out angry, I fought smart and it was my fight.” Fighting for the first time in his home state, Providence light heavyweight Greg Rebello (12-2-0) won his 11th straight fight, taking all three rounds for a unanimous 3-round decision against Tiawan Howard (7-6-0) in the co-main event. Rebello-Howard was fought almost exclusively on the ground with Rebello holding an advantage throughout. “It was great fighting here,” Rebello said. “I took this fight on 2-week notice. I’m a striker, pretty much known for that, but my wrestling and jiu-jitsu was better. He’s strong and tough to finish off.”
In a spirited battle between talented bantamweights, Tateki Matsuda (5-3-0), fighting out of Boston by way of Tokyo, won a hard-fought, 3-round split decision versus a game Jason Bennett (4-3-0).
In a pair of lightweight bouts, Hitalo Machado (7-4-0) won a 3-round decision against hometown favorite, Lincoln’s (RI) Jeff “Candyman” Anderson (5-3-0), while Luiz Rodriguez (4-0-0), of Somerville (MA), remained undefeated by locking a triangle choke on Lionel Young (4-5-0) for a win by first-round submission.
In a fight featuring a pair of fighters making their pro debuts, popular Framingham (MA) middleweight Doug Bolanes blasted Josh Labossiere with a powerhouse right-handed punch that landed square on the jaw, set-up by a left uppercut, for an impressive knockout at 1:11 of the opening round.
Providence favorite Ruben “Rukus” Rey (2-1-0), of Providence, stopped James King (0-2-0) midway through the second round, in a fight contested at a 152-pounds catch-weight, by way of a flying knee kick to the body followed by a strike to the head. The long anticipated pro debut of Waltham (MA) lightweight Tyson Chartier was a success as he forced Justin Switzer to tap-out from a rear naked choke in the third round.

Lauzon-Trites headlines Thursday night at Twin River Event Center in RI
Providence light heavyweight Greg Rebello has been a professional mixed martial arts fighter for nearly six years, but this Thursday night he’ll be making his cage debut in his home state.
Rebello (11-2-0) takes on Cleveland invader Tiawan Howard (7-5-0) on the special “Snow Brawl” professional mixed martial arts card at the Twin River Event Center in Lincoln, R.I. Rebello-Howard replaced the originally scheduled co-main event between Mike “The Beast” Campbell (8-3-0) and Tony “Lion Heart” Hervey (12-8-0) after Campbell suffered an injury last week at training camp that forced him to withdraw.
“Snow Brawl” is being presented by Jimmy Burchfield’s CES MMA, in association with Twin River. The main event, contested at a 165-pound catch-weight, pits bitter rivals Dan “The Upgrade” Lauzon (13-4-0), fighting out of East Bridgewater (MA), against Boston-based Damien “The Omen” Trites (5-3-0), who’ve both spewed more venom than any MMA opponents in recent memory.
A member of Team Sityodtong, Rebello is a Muay Thai fighter, trained by Mark Dellegrotte, who is riding a 10-fight win streak. All of Rebello’s pro MMA fights have been in nearby Massachusetts because the sport wasn’t sanctioned in Rhode Island until this past September.
Rebello, who participated in The Ultimate Fighter 11 reality television series, last fought May 6, winning a unanimous decision against John Doyle on a Bellator show held in Boston.
“The biggest thing for me, of course, is fighting and winning,” Rebello said, “but fighting in Providence is cool. I work at the best bar in Providence, View Lounge. I’m a bartender and we’re not open on Thursday nights. Other bartenders and customers there are friends and when I fight on weekends it’s tough for them to get time off. I sold a ton of tickets there this week and 30 to 40 people who’ve never seen me fight will be there. “I’ve always fought where the best opportunities were for me. There was Vale Tudo in Rhode Island, back in ’98-99. Mat Santos is a buddy of mine and he fought back then. But I never thought there’d be MMA in Rhode Island, especially in a cool place like Twin River. I’m excited.”
Rhode Island MMA pioneer Mat Santos (2-6-0), of East Greenwich, takes on Taunton middleweight Ed Medeiros (3-3-0). Also fighting on the undercard are Connecticut featherweight Jason Bennett (4-3-0) versus Tateki Matsuda (4-3-0), out of Boston by way of Tokyo; Brockton (MA) lightweight Lionel Young (4-4-0) taking on Luiz Rodriguez (3-0-0) of Somerville (MA); Lincoln (RI) hometown favorite Jeff “Candyman” Anderson (5-2-0) facing (Danbury (CT) lightweight Hitalo Machado (6-4-0); Waltham (MA) lightweight Tyson Chartier making his pro debut against Justin Switzer (0-1-0), of Lincoln; middleweights Doug Bolanes, of Framingham (MA) and Josh Labossiere, of Narragansett (RI), making their pro debuts against each other; and Providence’s Ruben “Rukus” Rey (1-1-0) tangling with Brockton’s James King (0-1-0) at a 150-pound catch-weight.
All bouts feature three, five-minute rounds. All fights and fighters are subject to change.

LINCOLN, R.I. (Nov. 16, 2010) – The UFC’s youngest fighter ever, Dan “The Upgrade” Lauzon (13-4-0), has angrily fired back at his Dec. 2nd opponent, Damien “The Omen” Trites (5-3-0), whose disparaging remarks last week fueled on ongoing feud between the bitter main-event rivals headlining the “Snow Brawl” professional Mixed Martial Arts show, presented by Jimmy Burchfield’s CES MMA at the Twin River Event Center in Lincoln, R.I.
Trites claimed the 22-year-old Lauzon disrespected him during a workout at Reality Self Defense, owned by Lauzon’s older brother, UFC lightweight contender Joe Lauzon (18-5-0), who fights George Sotorupoulos on UFC 123 (Nov. 20 at Auburn Hills, Mich.).
Although Lauzon disputes Trites’ explanation about the start of the feud, the East Bridgewater (MA) fighter did agree there’s no love between these two rivals. “We don’t like each other,” an irritated Lauzon said about Trites. “It all started when he pulled out of a fight against my teammate (Joe Proctor). He had an ankle injury, so, okay, he pulled out of the fight. Then he (Trites) goes on Facebook saying he heard reports that he was afraid to fight Proctor but would fight him in the street. How do you pull out of a fight with an injury and then say you’d fight in the street? I said he was supposedly hurt but still tried out for The Ultimate Fighter. That’s what really started this.
“I read that he said it started because he came to my brother’s gym to work out and I tried to take his head off. He’s going to find out December 2nd what it’s like for me to try and take his head off. Hey, it’s fighting, and if he can’t handle it, too bad. We were there training to fight. He went to Las Vegas for a while but 90 percent of the people who know him here don’t like him. He came to our gym one time and said that he wouldn’t come back? He was banned from our gym because he’s so arrogant.”
Lauzon has won nine of his last 11 fights, while Trites is riding a 4-fight win streak. Lauzon also claims Trites sent him threatening messages via Facebook while derisively referring to him as a “gangster.”
“He is nothing but a punk,” Lauzon said. “Come December 2nd I’m going to hit him with real good punches in his face to show him the gangster I am. This fight is going to sell itself. I plan on hurting him.”
Popular Providence lightweight Mike “The Beast” Campbell (8-3-0) takes on Detroit invader Tony “Lion Heart” Hervey (12-8-0) in the co-main event.
Rhode Island MMA pioneer Mat Santos (2-6-0) of East Greenwich will be seeking revenge against BJJ specialist Everilton “Sonca” Silva (3-3-0), of Marlborough, MA), winner of a two-round, split decision against Santos four years ago.
Also fighting on the undercard are Connecticut featherweight Jason Bennett (4-3-0) versus Tateki Matsuda (4-3-0), out of Boston by way of Tokyo, and Brockton (MA) lightweight Lionel Young (4-4-0) taking on Luiz Rodriguez (3-0-0) of Somerville (MA). Pawtucket welterweight Rigo Dominicci (4-10-0) is scheduled to fight on the card against an opponent to be determined.
