ROF 38 FIGHTER FOCUS: KASHEEM PETERSON

DENVER, CO - Kasheem Peterson was born in Brooklyn, NY. He competed in high school football and wrestling at Overbrook Regional High School in Pine Hill, NJ. Having gaining athletic scholarship and government assistance he then attended and played D1AA football for the SoCon team of The Citadel Military Institute of South Carlina. Peterson's main course of studies was Government and Politics. After receiving a modeling contract and a feature role in the movie Radio, Peterson transferred to Widener University where he attained a BS of Political Science and PreLaw. He then moved to Philadelphia and started training in Boxing and then MMA. After a brief competitive career on the east coast he moved to the fight capitol of the world, Las Vegas. He hooked up with famed trainer Shawn Tompkins and really enjoyed the chemistry he found with "The Coach"

"Growing up in sports I have had the experience of working with many people that profess to be coaches or instructors I found that Shawn has the ability to train his subjects physically and mentally. Its the belief in his teachings which causes his subjects to ultimately believe in themselves. I found that to be a trait that would harvest the chemistry needed in the fighter slash coach relationship or athlete slash trainer that many people need in their lives to achieve excellence. So I moved to Vegas to save money and time. Time is of the essence and I felt that being in Philadelphia was yet a waste of time when I had such a prestigious and accomplished coach willing to invest time in me. " explains Peterson

Peterson would make bi weekly journeys from Philly to Vegas to train. The commute was quickly turning in to a financial burden.

"In this sport inconsistency can be as a menace to your goals and inhibit progress. The middle of march is when I decided to no longer commute and pack my belongings and my life, and move to Las Vegas to train with best"

"I got hooked up with "THE COACH" by mere suggestion and introduction by Sam Caplan who at the time was managing me. He referred me and made suggestion once I was being considered for The Ultimate Fighter season 10 and 11 that I should enhance my training and seek out which camp would be best for me. The first on his list was Shawn Tompkins. He made some calls in my interest and with open arms he received a response from Shawn. I was given an opportunity to prove myself on his training floor. I am a rookie in the world of MMA and yet I was ignorant to a lot of the fundamentals and knowledge of who's who in the sport. So I was being matched up with guys that out classed me and had more experience. I in fact didn't even know too much about who this Mr. Tompkins was nor did I even know who to look for. I showed up with "an empty cup", humble, and hungry eager to learn and possibly be a part of what he has put some of his own blood, sweat, and tears in and become a part of the team."

How did you get started in MMA:

I got started in MMA by Aaron Meisner of the Ultimate Fighter season 7. He so passionately introduced me to the ultimate competition of fighting. Brought me to Brad Daddis of Daddis fight camp where I met Kru Rigel Balsimico. Brad, Aaron, and Rigel all convinced me to give training my all. I fell in love with the sport and immediately set out to be the best I can be at it. Then through certain circumstance and opportunity I found myself privileged to be under the wing of a legendary coach Shawn Tompkins.


Typical training day:

My typical training day consists of two sessions. The first session consists of technique or conditioning on an individual basis and the second is a team session in which I get polish the both with members of our team who all share primarily the same passion and goal of being a great fighter, memorable product of the sport, or champion of some sort. Harmony in reason or purpose is what makes this all possible.

Team Tompkins Assassin as filed on any 1099...lol


Thoughts on opponent:

I think nothing of opponents. I respect them as a men and as fighters but see them as obstacles set in my path that through the guidance of my coach I will either go through or over them.


Key to victory:

The key to victory is belief in oneself and the unyielding faith in your coach and training. For it is only you who knows how bad you want it and what you did to get it.


Goals in MMA:

Is to be welterweight champ of any organization I step in and to be one of the most revered and respected fighters of anyone to ever hear of my name.


Favorite Stand Up Technique:

Whichever one drops the dude in front of me.


Favorite Submission Technique:

Whichever one gets my hand raised when the fight is over.


Favorite Fighter:

Honestly I am biased and favored to all my teammates. So my favorite fighter is my coach. I wouldn't try him if I were you.


Favorite Food:

Anything when I'm completing dieting as long as it doesn't smell like feces its going down....


Favorite Music:

I like anything except country.


Favorite Actor:

No Particular favorite.


Favorite Movie:

Radio with Cuba Gooding Jr and Ed Harris only because I'm in it and gained a supporting role and specialty stunt work. yup check the credits homie....


Hobbies:

My hobbies are networking and partying. They both lead to happiness someway somehow.


If You could meet anyone alive or dead, who would it be and why?

If I could meet anyone person It would be Kasheem Peterson of 2070 cause I hope to be around 60 years from now.
