DREAM. 13 Live Results, Discussion & Event Coverage

Postby NWOWolfpack » Sun Mar 21, 2010 12:55 pm

Fight #7: DREAM Featherweight (-63kg) Title Match: DREAM Rules:
Bibiano Fernandes vs. Joachim Hansen via Decision 2-1

- Fernandes remains the DREAM FW Champion.

Round 1: Bibiano starts with low leg kicks and Hansen throws an inside leg kick, Bibiano shoots and gets the takedown but lets Hansen back up. Hansen walking forward and they lock up against the ropes, the referee separates the two and Hansen lands a kick-strike combo. Hansen throws a left and Bibiano counters with a right hook, they clinch against the ropes and Bibiano gets the takedown and works from Hansen's half guard. Hansen escapes and they are back standing, both fighters exchange strikes and Hansen lands a big leg kick to the left thigh of Bibiano. The fight turns into a striking match and both fighters are throwing jabs and hooks, Bibiano shoots and get the takedown again. Hansen lands a couple of upkicks that caused Brandon Vera a point earlier tonight in the UFC. Back standing Bibiano lands a flying knee, Hansen moves in and Bibiano lands a right hook and a knee that hurt the Hellboy. They clinch and exchange dirty boxing as the round ends. Bibiano takes Round 1.

Round 2: Hansen starts with a low leg kick that lands but then Bibiano takes him down again but Hansen gets back up and lands a jab. Hansen continues with the low leg and inside kicks, a slip by Hansen finds him on his back again where he lands more upkicks. Both fighters back standing and Hansen starts to unleash, kicks, knees and strikes. Bibiano though counters with a clinch and locks up Hansen against the ropes. Bibiano shoots after a knee by Hansen and gets the takedown but the quickly go back to the stand-up. Hansen takes Round 2.

- Back to normal land, they are doing the Norwegian and the Brazilian National Anthems before the main event kicks off.

Fight #6: Heavyweight (+93.1kg): DREAM Rules:
Josh Barnett vs. Mighty Mo via Submission (Kimura) Round 1

Round 1: Barnett starts with leg and body kicks, Mighty Mo lands a right that hurts Barnett and they clinch and exchange knees. Barnett holds Mighty Mo in the corner and they exchange knees, the referee breaks them and puts them back in the center. Barnett trying to land kicks to keep Mighty Mo at a distance and Barnett kicks Mighty Mo in the nutz (and yes fans that is atleast 3 nut shots tonight) and Mighty Mo doesn't look like he will continue as he moans on the ground and the doctor's are evaluating his package. The shot may hurt worse since Barnett was wearing wrestling shoes but regardless the un-fortunate doctor is checking Mighty Mo's package again. Mighty Mo tells the Doctor he can't continue (actually he said "Fuck this I can't go on"). Doctor's in lab coats are trying to convince Mighty Mo to go on and I think that every DREAM employee and official is in the ring.

..OK, Barnett goes over to Mighty Mo's corner and tells him that he can have a free kick to Josh's nutz and they give Mighty Mo another 3 minutes to recover. WTF is going on?

The fight restarts and both fighters engage, Barnett with low kicks and body punches and Mighty Mo throwing looping left hands. Barnett lands a knee and takes Mighty Mo down and goes for the Kimura. Mighty Mo taps.

- Mighty Mo gives Barnett a nut shot after they shake hands and Barnett addresses the crowd apologizing to fans for the events that happened.

- Mighty Mo comes to the Ring looking confident but then Barnett enters to his Death Metal (couldn't tell which band) with a look of murder and a screaming crowd.

Fight #5: Lightweight (-70kg): DREAM Rules:
KJ Noons vs. Andre Dida via Decision 3-0

Round 1: Dida starts with a low kick that nails Noons in the junk. Fight restarts and Dida continues with low leg kicks, Noons showing his boxing presence and both fighters looking to find their respective range. Noons jabbing with lefts and Dida answers with a strike-kick combo but Noons continues to push the action with his boxing skills. Body shots from Noons but Dida seems un-fazed as he counters with left hooks. Noons lands a big left and more body shots but eats an overhand left from Dida. Noons starts stalking but Dida is game and defends well, the referee keeps yelling fight but he must be talking to someone in the crowd and warns both fighters even though they are both engaging. Both fighters exchange rights, jabs by Noons and low leg kicks by Dida and they are both exchanging lefts now. Looks like a boxing match from Noons and Dida is trying knees and leg kicks. Round 1 goes to Noons.

Round 2: Dida bleeding from the nose and he comes out trying to land kicks, Noons puts Dida in a corner and lands several body shots. Noons continues to be the aggressor and begins to chase Dida around the ring, referee stops the action to wipe the blood from Dida. Fight resumes, more of the same as Noons keeps boxing and Dida finally answers with a right but Noons goes straight back to the body shots and the jabs. Dida taking chances now but he can't stop the boxing of Noons so far. Noons ends the fight the same way he started it, with boxing. Round 2 goes to Noons.

- A possible match-up between the "Can Crusher" Kawajiri and Noons is talked about depending on Noons v. Dida outcome tonight.

- Once again we see the promo for Strikeforce vs. DREAM and this time its all about Noons vs. Dida.

- The Voice continues to plug a potential Barnett vs. Overeem fight if Barnett wins tonight but what about Ubereem's fight with Rogers?

INTERMISSION

Fight #4: Welterweight (-76kg): DREAM Rules:
Ryo Chonan vs. Andrews Nakahara via Decision 3-0

Round 1: The Piranha lands a right hook to start and both fighters a using excellent footwork to stay away from eachother until Chonan lands another right. Nakahara lands a body kick and some strikes but slips and Chonan pounces landing in Nakahara's guard. Nakahara takes control and is looking for the arm-bar, the referee moves them to the center and Chonan escapes danger for now and lands some GNP. Neither fighting doing much on the ground as they wait for an opportunity. More strikes from Chonan from the standing guard position before he moves back down into Nakahara's guard and lands some elbows. Chonan gets a partial crucifix and lands several strikes before Nakahara can move him back to half guard. Chonan uses GNP to move to side control but Nakahara moves him back to full guard and the referee stands them up and issues a yellow card to Nakahara. Back standing, Chonen lands a left jab and a nice combo as he pushes the pace until Nakahara kicks him straight in the nutz. Chonan down and not feeling well but looks like he will continue. The fight resumes and both fighters look to sway the judges with late round action. Chonan takes Round 1.

Round 2: Nakahara tries to land some low leg kicks and Chonan responds with his own kicks and jabs. Chonan stalking Nakahara but he eats a nice combo for his trouble and comes back with a couple of straight rights. After a missed takedown by Chonan, both fighters start swinging for the fences and Nakahara lands a big knee that forces Chonan to take him down. The crowd reacts to action and Chonan mounts Nakahara, the referee moves the fighters from the corner to the center and Chonan lands elbows to the shoulder of Nakahara. Round 2 goes to Chonan.

Fight #3: Featherweight (-63kg): DREAM Rules:
Yoshiro Maeda vs. Cole Escovedo via KO - Left High Kick RD. 1

Round 1: They come out swinging and both fighters checking distances with kicks, Maeda lands a big right uppercut and Escovedo scratches the eye of Maeda. The fight resumes and both fighters trying to land high leg kicks, Maeda lands a knee to the body and remains the aggressor. Maeda blocks a right low leg kick and Escovedo lands a LHK to KO Maeda.

- Maeda is bleeding good but he is back up standing as Escovedo thanks the fans.

- If entrance music wins fights its Escovedo (Metallica) over Maeda (really couldn't tell you what his song was)

Fight #2: Lightweight (-70kg): DREAM Rules:
Kuniyoshi Hironaka vs. Katsunori Kikuno via TKO - Strikes RD. 1

Round 1: Kikuno moves right in with strikes and body kicks, the referee moves them back to center after a lull in action, they tie up again against the ropes. Straight right by Hironaka and Kikuno lands a liver kick and follows up with 2 punches (left and right hooks) to end the fight as the referee jumps in.

- Kikuno addresses the crowd and says he will continue to improve.

- HDNet announces several K-1 broadcasts and also DREAM. 14 which will take place in Korea.

Fight #1: Open Weight: DREAM Rules:
Minowaman vs. Jimmy Ambriz via Submission (Heel Hook) RD. 2

Round 1: Ambriz controls early on the ground and also lands a suplex. Ambriz GNP and more control as he is on Minowaman's back using his weight to hold down the Japanese superstar. Ambriz continues to smother Minowaman and throws him down again as Minowaman tries to get up. The referee stands up both fighters and gives both fighters a yellow card. Both fighters look a little tired already, then out of nowhere they both exchange combos and the crowd cheers. Minowaman starting to land his left hook with precision now and low also landing low leg kicks on the bigger, tired fighter. Ambriz takes Round 1.

Round 2: Both fighters looking for an opening to land strikes, Minowaman lands a right and they exchange strikes until Ambriz takes him down and works from half-guard. Ambriz bleeding from his nose but once again using his weight and he mounts Minowaman but gets reversed and Minowaman works from half guard, turns and gets Ambriz's leg and gets the heel hook locked in and Ambriz has to tap.

- Interestingly MMA Manager Ken Pavia is one of 2 people cornering Ambriz.

- The Super Hulk Champion makes his way to the ring and the crowd and The Voice go crazy.

OPENING CEREMONY

- Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker is ringside.

- The Opening Ceremony video shows both Strikeforce and DREAM fighters and officially welcomes the partnership and competition between the two organizations to kick off 2010 for DREAM and even shows potential cross-promotional match-ups that may occur later this year.

- The arena is about 3/4 full as we await the opening ceremony which is sure not to disappoint those fans used to Japanese MMA.

What do you expect? The comedian is dead.
