UFC 119: Mir vs. Cro Cop - Preview, LIVE Results & Coverage
UFC 119: Frank Mir vs. Mirko Cro Cop Fight Card:
Main Card (PPV):
Frank Mir vs. Mirko “Cro Cop” Filipovic via TKO (Strikes/Knee) Round 3 (4:02)
- CC opens with a strikers combo and Mir throws a few leg kicks and shoots for the takedown, CC stuffs it and they clinch against the cage. CC knees Mir in the balls....fight resumes. Not much action, Mir clinches CC up against the cage and lands an elbow and a knee. They break, Mir grabs CC again and pushes him to the cage. Herb Dean moves them back to the center, the round ends with a body kick from CC and a rush from Mir putting CC against the cage and Mir lands a big left.
- More of the same as round one, Mir holding CC against the cage, Herb Dean steps in again. Both fighters continue to exchange but its one punch or kick at a time and again Mir lays on CC against the cage. That's about it for this round as CC misses a LHK.
- The arena is buzzing...with boos. Mir starts to pick up the pace but looks too much like the first 2 rounds. No combos from either fighter are connecting. Mir and CC start talking to eachother like they are friends while Mir hold him against the cage. Herb Dean breaks them up again, after more no action, Frank Mir knocks out Cro Cop with a knee to the head from the clinch.
Antonio Rogerio Nogueira vs. Ryan Bader via Decision - Unanimous (30-27 all judges)
- Not much happened in the first 90 seconds, Bader got a takedown and landed several jackhammer punches to Nogueira's head before moving into Nogueira's guard. Bader kept the pressure on with GNP until a scramble got both fighters back up. Nogueira landed a big right hand and Bader got another brief takedown.
- Nogueira and Bader come out looking for leg kicks and jabs, neither fighter landed much in the first two minutes of the second frame. Bader got a takedown but Nogueira got right back up, then Bader landed a knee and then threw Nogueira down but let him back up. Bader is winning the stand-up and the fight so far.
- Eye poke during an exchange and Bader needs a few minutes to recover. Both fighters are more aggressive now with their striking and Nogueira defends several takedown attempts until Bader finally gets him down but Nogueira gets right back to his feet. Nogueira starts stalking Bader around the cage, getting the better of the striking exchanges. Bader counters a knee with another takedown and the fight ends with Bader in Nogueira's guard.
Matt Serra vs. Chris Lytle via Decision - (30-27 all judges)
- Both fighters came out swinging, Lytle cut Serra and most of the round was contested in the stand-up with Lytle the more technical of the two and he took round 1. Serra's left eye is selling and bloody.
- Another slugfest in the second round, Lytle started punishing Serra with right hooks and uppercuts that hurt Serra and nearly put him down. Somehow Serra kept his feet and survived an onslaught of combos from Lytle to end the round.
- The final frame started with an embrace and then Lytle hunting Serra down again. One takedown attempt by Serra defended by Lytle, Serra's face is now showing damage all over. Serra is one tough SOB because once again Lytle unloaded everything he had on the former champion but Serra was still standing at the final bell.
Evan Dunham vs. Sean Sherk via Decision - Split (29-28,28-29,29-28)
- Dunham nearly caught Sherk in a guillotine choke early the first round, besides that Sherk had 2 good takedowns and then another escape from Dunham's guillotine choke. After which Sherk landed a big elbow that cut Dunham's head and the blood is free flowing. The doctors checked the cut and all is well.
- Sherk escaped another guillotine choke through the blood pouring out of Dunham's face. Sherk got 2 more takedowns but Dunham pushed the action with his striking (knees and strikes) and round 2 probably went to Dunham.
- Dunham opened the round with a RHK, Dunham again won the striking battle in this round and Sherk couldn't block the knees or the kicks by Dunham and it should go 29-28 Dunham.
Jeremy Stephens vs. Melvin Guillard via Decision - Split (29-28,28-29,30-27)
- Round 1 went as billed as both were swinging for the fences but it was Guillard who won the round with speed and precision striking.
- Round 2 looks like DREAM 16, with multiple fouls for groin shots by both fighters. The rest of the round was much like the first with Guillard winning the stand-up battle.
- A lot less action in the third frame as both fighters were looking for the homerun shot and Stephens landed a big liver shot followed by several kicks and strikes but it may not have been enough to sway the judges.
Preliminary Card (Spike TV):
C.B. Dollaway vs. Joe Doerksen via Submission (Guillotine Choke) Round 1 (2:13)
- Doerksen almost immediately shot for the takedown and Dollaway caught him with a Guillotine and after some escape attempts, Doerksen tapped.
Matt Mitrione vs. Joey Beltran via Decision - Unanimous (29-28 all judges)
- Mitrione came out fast with superior striking and then Beltran took him down and used the rest of the first to punish Mitrione with GNP.
- The second round was a straight up slugfest with FOTN exchanges and probably an even round.
- Round three was all stand-up brawling and Mitrione landed more precise strikes and he should win the decision.
Preliminary Card (Un-aired):
Thiago Tavares vs. Pat Audinwood via Submission (Guillotine Choke) Round 1 (3:47)
- Tavares controlled the fight on the ground from the opening bell.
Waylon Lowe vs. Steve Lopez via Decision - Split (29-28,28-29,29-28)
- The first two rounds of this fight saw very little action besides Lowe's takedowns. In the third, Lowe opened up a big cut on Lopez's head.
T.J. Grant vs. Julio Paulino via Decision - Unanimous (30-27 all judges)
- Grant was impressive for all three rounds using takedowns and submission attempts to stymie any offense by Paulino.
Mark Hunt vs. Sean McCorkle via Submission (Kimura) Round 1 (1:03)
- Hunt was aggressive and had ground control but McCorkle grabbed an arm and Hunt tapped.

EXCITING DECISIONS AND A TERRIBLE MAIN EVENT. I CAN'T BLAME DANA FOR BEING PISSED. I THOUGHT MIRKO AND MIR WERE DATING WHEN THEY WHERE TALKING IN THE THIRD ROUND. WASTE OF A FIGHT!
