K-1 World GP 2010 - Seoul - Final 16
Date: Saturday 2 October 2010, Gate Open 2:00PM / Event Start 3:00PM
Venue: Olympic Gymnasium 1st (Seoul Olympic Park, Korea)

FINAL16: K-1 Rules:

Alistair Overeem vs. Ben Edwards - TKO (Strikes) Round 1

- Edwards looks game so we will see what happens. Edwards comes out with a flurry, mostly blocked by Overeem, Overeem lands a big right and Edwards is down. Edwards gets back to his feet and pushes the fight with kicks. Overeem lands another right that floors Edwards, Edwards get back up again but only to get put to the canvas again.......game over!



FINAL16: K-1 Rules:

Semmy Schilt vs. Hesdy Gerges - Decision 2-0

- Schilt pushing with aggressive strikes but Gerges is not backing down, high left knee followed by strikes from Schilt, Gerges now on the defensive. Schilt takes the first round.

- You can already see some damage on Gerges' head, Schilt continues with the left jab, leg kick combo. More combos from Schilt, Gerges responds by pushing forward but Schilt keeps jabbing and throwing leg kicks. Schilt is punishing Gerges but Gerges lands a big overhand right and yet another round for Schilt.

- Schilt comes out and lands a couple of kicks but Gerges lands his own kicks and then a strike combo pushing the giant back on his heels. Gerges continues with the right leg kick, overhand right strike combo and Schilt is backing up. Gerges keeps moving in and we may see an extra round.



FINAL16: K-1 Rules:

Mighty Mo vs. Raul Catinas - Decision 3-0

- Catinas is using the leg kicks to chop MM down, MM tries to use his weight and he knocks Catinas down with a big right. Catinas is the faster fighter but MM is the more powerful striker and he takes round 1.

- Catinas comes out looking for the knockout, strike combo followed big leg kicks but MM counters with his own big punches. Body shots by MM lead to head strikes, Catinas responds with his own combos but MM hits a strike combo followed by a knee and this round is Mighty Mo's.

- Catinas is bleeding from his nose and he keeps trying to tie MM up, both fighters keep throwing and they are tired. MM throwing combos and Catinas knees MM in the balls (see Josh Barnett). At 37 MM looks great against the 23 year old. MM ends the fight with another flurry.



FINAL16: K-1 Rules:

Ewerton Teixeira vs. Peter Aerts - Decision Extra Round

- Teixeira trying to keep Aerts and his right hand at bay with leg kicks and jabs and so far its working. Aerts keeps moving forward and is landing some strikes but Teixeira is countering with good combos. Round goes to Teixeira.

- Teixeira not backing down and both fighters are swinging with Aerts taking the most punishment so far. Aerts starts landing with more strikes for the first time in the fight but Teixeira is countering with great kicks. Aerts lands a good RHK as the round ends but he needs a KO to win.

- Aerts comes out blasting, Teixeira responds with dirty boxing, Aerts takes a kick to the jewels! Aerts scores on a RHK and some knees, both fighters are warned for clinching, neither fighter is backing down and both are throwing and Aerts may have pushed this fight to extra rounds.

- Aerts gets a clinch warning, Teixeira lands more precise strikes and kicks including a great knee but Aerts landed a big right so we may see a second extra round. Teixeira is cut above his left eye and the round ends with a flurry from Aerts.



INTERMISSION



FINAL16: K-1 Rules:

Jerome Le Banner vs. Kyotaro - JLB quit after round 3

- JLB walks over and faces Kyotaro before the bell. JLB stalks Kyotaro to start the fight, Kyotaro circles the outside of the center of the canvas, JLB landed several good lefts and he takes round 1.

- Again, JLB stalks to start round 2, Kyotaro is moving to his left and is just inviting the big left from JLB. Kyotaro is peppering with kicks and just missing with his big right. JLB pours on the right-left combos and nearly puts Kyotaro down as the round ends. Great chin by Kyotaro.

- Kyotaro comes out more aggressive and lands a big left hook, followed by several combos that shake JLB. JLB bleeding but he is not backing down and either is Kyotaro, both are standing and throwing bombs but JLB is taking the worst of it. The last 30 seconds was a straight up brawl. Extra Round

- JLB protests the decision for an extra round and leaves the ring.



FINAL16: K-1 Rules:

Errol Zimmerman vs. Daniel Ghita via KO (Strikes) Round 2

- Zimmerman enters wearing the skeleton mask. Ghita pounding leg kicks early, Zimmerman made his presence felt with combos but most didn't land and Ghita continued with brutal leg kicks to take round 1.

- Zimmerman has a left leg injury but the round is underway. Ghita moves in and fakes the leg kick and throws a big combo to Zimmerman's face and KO's him.



FINAL16: K-1 Rules:

Gokhan Saki vs. Freddy Kemayo - TKO (Strikes/Ref Stoppage) Round 1

- Leg kicks by Kemayo and an electric combo by Saki to respond, Kemayo warned for clinching, Saki moves in with strong leg kicks and finishes with a punching combo that gets a standing eight count. They restart and Saki uses more strikes to floor Kemayo, after Kemayo gets back up Saki pounds on him some more and the ref calls it.



FINAL16: K-1 Rules:

Ray Sefo vs. Tyrone Spong - Decision 3-0

- Spong used his kicks to keep Sefo at bay throughout round 1 and take the round decisively despite a good left by Sefo to end the round.

- Spong warned for the clinch, Sefo throwing more and takes a nut shot, spinning back kick landed solid by Sefo. Sefo pressing the action more this round with uppercuts and jabs, Spong responds at the end of the round with multiple leg kicks.

- Sefo looks good for 39 years young, still dancing and taunting and he lets Spomg land three right hooks and shakes them off. Spong goes back to the leg kicks, even though Spong didn't hurt Sefo seriously, he won the fight easily despite a late knee to Sefo's junk.



Super Fight: K-1 Rules:

Sergey Kharitonov vs. Takumi Sato - KO (Strikes) Round 1

- Sato warned for clinching, Kharitonov showed a great left jab and right overhand right combo at the beginning. Kharitonov dropped Sato with a multiple uppercut combo once and then followed it with the same uppercuts and a high knee to KO Sato.



Super Fight: K-1 Rules:

Chalid "Die Faust" vs. Dzevad Poturak - TKO (Corner Stoppage) Round 3

- Poturak was warned for clinching in round 1 and Chalid won the round by landing more precise strikes, both kicks and punches.

- Chalid is bleeding from his nose and mouth, the doctors give him a check, Poturak pressed the action and landed at atleast a 2-1 rate to take round 2.

- The towel is thrown in due to a leg injury suffered by Chalid less than one minute into the third round.




Opening/Super Fight: K-1 Rules:

Min Ho Song vs. Hyun Man Myung via KO




- The Voice and Michael Kogan are your ring side announcers.

- It was announced that the K-1 2010 World Grand Prix Final 8 would take place on December 11th.

- The opening ceremony is underway and they are introducing the fighters with a piano band playing in the arena. Light but sweet!
