The episode opens up at the TUF house with Miesha stopping by to deliver another celebratory meal for Josh Hill and Michael Wooten who fought two weeks ago. If that whole fighting thing doesn’t work out, maybe Miesha and Bryan could open up some type of fast food delivery service for fighters with cravings. One man that won’t be eating a cheeseburger any time soon is Cody Bollinger. He still has a lot of weight to cut for his upcoming fight with Anthony Gutierrez.

While Cody worries about his weight, we hear from Anthony. Try as he might to hype his chances, it feels like there isn’t a lot of confidence in his voice. He calls Cody, “The most accomplished guy here,” and describes himself as a “gamer.” In the fight world, gamer is code for “I don’t look that great most of the time, but when it’s fight day I exceed the low expectations.” He also promises that the fight will be a bloodbath, but it’s not entirely clear whose blood will be on the mat. Coach Rousey continues the not so emphatic praise. “He looks good. He actually looks better,” and follows that up by calling him “annoying and squirrelly.” I suppose squirrels can be pretty vicious.

We transition back to Cody Bollinger who’s transitioning between the treadmill and sauna to drop the last few pounds. No one ever looks good at this point, but he seems worse than most. He steps on the scale and he’s at 141 (5 pounds over the 136 bantamweight limit). The Team Tate coaches conference and they’re starting to worry. In the last 2 hours, Cody hasn’t lost a single pound. This news seems to be the final straw and Cody starts to mentally break. He wants to stop and the coaches try to talk him into keeping it going. Miesha even busts out a picture of his daughter and tells him to do it for her. Cody tears up and Coach Tate busts out a line that should live in TUF infamy, “Good! You got tears, you got water in you.”

After a break we’re back at the TUF house and people are giving a last ditch effort to get Cody to lose the weight. Raquel Pennington and Roxanne Modafferi try to support him, but he throws in the towel and starts drinking his coconut water. Cody even admits himself that he quit. Miesha is visibly upset and laments, “It’s hard to see someone let their dreams slip through their fingers.” The entire situation was preventable and Cody does not seem to have many people feeling sorry for him. Dana White calls an emergency meeting because he wants Cody to tell everybody what he did. He admits to everyone that he mentally broke and doesn’t give any excuses. Dana yells at him for wasting this opportunity and tells him to walk out the door and not come back. On the way out, Cody says, “I just don’t want to have to tell my wife and kid. This was my [expletive] shot . I [expletive] up.”

As they scramble for resolutions, the options break down into two: 1) Delay the fight. Give Chris Beal another shot and weigh in again in a couple days or 2) Forfeit the fight. They call Anthony into the office to have him decide. He takes the prudent course and chooses the forfeit. He realizes that while it would be sexier to take the fight and be cavalier about it, but he takes the prudent course and accepts the forfeit.

After the weight cut debacle we transition to the final preliminary round fight between Sarah Moras and Peggy Morgan. We first hear from Sarah who describes her opponent as “a giraffe,” because she’s pale, ginger and tall. Sarah’s path to MMA began with an old boyfriend who introduced her to the sport. Both Sarah and Miesha realize that Peggy is the biggest girl in the house, but they don’t think the size difference will be that much of a factor. Sarah plans on getting it to the mat and utilizing her ground and pound.

Back at the house we hear from Peggy who’s missing her son Oliver. When asked what his mom does for a living, Peggy says that he tells people, “Momma fights in a cage.” A professor of literature and composition at Southern New Hampshire University, she tells us that she just fell into an MMA career. She started with boxing and kickboxing to stay in shape and it just progressed from there (you’d think that a lit professor would concoct a better origin story). Ronda says the keys to victory are Peggy using her reach and avoiding takedowns against the fence.

These weigh-ins progress without any drama and then it’s fight time.

ROUND ONE

The round begins with Peggy following the gameplan. She keeps Sarah at the end of her reach and controls all the engagements with straight punches. Sarah answers with a low kick, but Peggy counters with a jab, cross combo that connects. Sarah shoots in for a double leg, but Peggy sprawls and the two are against the fence. As they fight for position, both grab the fence and receive warnings from the referee. They break and return to the center. Peggy continues to pop that jab and they land at will. Sarah has enough of it and shoots in for another double leg. Peggy defends initially, but Sarah follow through and secures the takedown. Once on the ground, they both stall out. Sarah can’t advance and Peggy seems content to just hold and wait. The ref tells them to stay busy and Sarah uses that as an impetus to move to half guard, then quickly to mount. She finally gets a chance to use her ground and pound and proceeds to drop hammerfists and elbows. Peggy tries to hold on, but Sarah keeps the damage coming. In the closing moments, Sarah transitions to armbar and with 21 seconds left she earns the tap.

No real time for celebrations as we immediately head back to Dana’s office for the quarterfinal matchups. He asks Miesha and Ronda for their thoughts and then calls in each fighter individually to as them who they would like to fight. Nothing of note happens except that Miesha and Ronda actually agree on the fights without argument to which Dana exclaims, “For the first time in history!”

!

With little argument, the semifinals are as follows:

The episode opens up at the house and the liquor is flowing! All the preliminary round fights have wrapped up and the fighters are looking to blow off some steam. Both the eliminated contestants and some of those still remaining (we’re looking at you Gutierrez) are imbibing and having a good time. Coach Ronda Rousey brings some burgers and shows off her bar tending skills. Fast food and alcohol -- either it’s a party at the TUF house or a high school senior’s garage. As the majority of the housemates stuff their faces and drink cocktails, Raquel Pennington is upstairs with Sarah Moras. When asked about her semifinal match against Julianna Pena, Sarah feels like she’s fighting more than just a teammate. She believes that the coaches are playing favorites and want Julianna to win. Raquel agrees with her.

The accusations continue at Team Tate training the next day. As Miesha shows Julianna a takedown technique, Raquel continues her thoughts from the night before. She iterates her charge that Julianna and Chris Holdsworth are the favorites and nobody else seems to be getting attention. Louis Fisette agrees with her and complains that ever since his first round loss to David Grant, he’s received no instruction. Finally assistant coach Master Thong tells Louis to put his gloves on and get ready to work. Unfortunately for Fisette, Thong just wants him to get his gear on so he can spar Chris Holdsworth for his upcoming fight against Michael Wooten. Normally that wouldn’t be a big deal, but Fisette still has stitches in from the Grant fight. Louis doesn’t understand why he’s being asked to spar, but does it anyway. It looks like Sarah and Raquel’s gripes are more than just paranoia.

After a break the semifinalists and coaches head out to Harley Davidson boot camp. Basically it’s a motorcycle 101 class; the fighters learn the basics of handling a Harley and customize their own bike. As they debate ape hanger or cruiser handlebars, UFC heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez shows up to give a little pep talk. We return to the TUF gym and another UFC star shows up as Nate Diaz coaches a Team Rousey training session. A Cesar Gracie black belt, he shows a couple grappling moves, but doesn’t want to overwhelm them with a bunch of new information. Ronda reveals that Nate Diaz vs. Manny Gamburyan TUF 5 Finale was the first MMA fight she ever watched. The more shocking revelation, though, is when David Grant tells us that he named his son after Nate Diaz. That must have been one hell of a highlight video to convince the mother to name her kid after a Diaz brother.

Another break we’re back at the house where alleged coach’s pet Chris Holdsworth speaks about the growing animosity. “I’m definitely seeing more of a separation,” he admits. From his point of view, though, he’s the wronged party. With the biggest fight of his career coming up, he’s upset that his teammates are more worried about eating ice cream than helping him train.

Realizing that tensions are high (and she’s the cause of much of it), Miesha decides to take the most reasonable course of action -- start a silly string fight. It’s better than nothing, right? After the silly string, Miesha brings the team into the living room to hear Kenny Salvini speak. Former wrestling team captain at Central Washington University, a 2004 skiing accident left him a quadriplegic. He focuses his talk on overcoming setbacks and emphasizes that you should never let disappointments define who you are.

Hopefully Michael Wooten took Salvini’s message to heart because he could use a little extra motivation. Even though his fight with Chris Holdsworth is coming up fast, he starts to get homesick. Also, with everyone in party mode he admits that the craziness of the house is finally wearing him down. In addition to the mental difficulties, Michael appears to be breaking down physically. He doesn’t think that he’s fully recovered from his last fight and looks sluggish and fatigued. Ronda notices all this and thinks Michael is worn out. Not the ideal momentum leading up to a major fight, but he doesn’t have much time to rest. It’s fight time.

ROUND ONE

Both fighters open exchanging strikes on the outside. Chris appears to be quicker and more comfortable, but a strong right hand from Wooten changes his demeanor. Michael tries to capitalize, but he gets too close and Chris grabs a waist lock. He pushes Michael to the cage, picks him up and dumps him right down. Chris starts in half guard and quickly moves to side mount. As Michael tries to regain his guard, Chris moves for a D’arce choke. Michael tries to escape, but Chris keeps the choke hold. Michael finally gets out, but Chris climbs his back and moves in for the rear naked choke. Michael tries to wiggle him off, but Chris has his hooks in tight. Michael nearly breaks Chris’s grip to get free, but he makes one small mistake and Chris locks it in. At the 1:48 mark Michael finally taps and Chris Holdsworth is moving on to the finals.

Miesha calls it a “picture perfect fight,” Ronda acknowledges the tactical error and Michael himself says, “Today was the most important fight of my life and I didn’t show.” Dana looks ahead to the next week’s fight between Julianna Pena and Sarah Moras and we wrap up with a preview for episode eleven.

Who will be the first woman to make it to the finals? Why is Julianna public enemy number one again? Do we find out that Miesha’s silly string fight was an elaborate attempt to poison Sarah? Find out this and more next week on The Ultimate Fighter!

The episode opens at the training center and the continued troubles on Team Tate. With the upcoming fight between teammates Julianna Pena and Sarah Moras, Miesha has noticed how the team dynamics have changed and Julianna is becoming increasingly ostracized. Miesha also informs us that this won’t be the first time Julianna and Sarah have fought. Their first match took place in April of 2012 with Sarah earning the TKO via doctor’s stoppage. Apparently Sarah locked in an armbar, Julianna didn’t tap and it caused some major damage.

Not wanting to be caught by the same move again, we see Coach Tate drilling armbar defense with Julianna as Sarah sits in the background watching. Sarah repeats her charges that the coaching staff is playing favorites with Julianna and it finally sets her off. The coaches find Sarah in the sauna crying and Miesha tries to comfort her. “We’ll fix it. I promise” she tells Moras. Wanting to make things fair, Miesha decides to split up the assistant coaching staff. Sarah will have two coaches exclusively train her and Julianna will get the other two. In an effort to maintain neutrality, Miesha decides to sit out the training completely. The next day when Julianna asks Miesha to spar with her, Coach Tate explains the new set up and Pena is not pleased. She says that it hurts her feelings and that “I want all the coaches to be on my side.” Maybe Miesha should have played this video at the beginning of the season.

After a break we’re back at the house and Julianna still has not made any more friends over the course of the season. Anthony Gutierrez even says that the “Happy Warrior” Roxanne Modafferi doesn’t like Julianna, and adds that if Roxy doesn’t like you, “you know you’re failing at life.” For her part, Julianna just doesn’t seem to understand why there’s all this animosity towards her. The only theory she comes up with is that the guys are mean to her because they don’t want their girlfriends to see them talking to a pretty girl like her.

Back at the gym, the humble Julianna sees Miesha showing Sarah a technique and becomes upset. Miesha doesn’t seem too concerned and brushes it off as the usual Julianna stuff while assistant coach Bryan Caraway calls Pena, “Awesome, but a little crazy.” While Julianna doesn’t seem to be getting any sympathy from friends, Sarah commits a faux pas of her own. While working some ground and pound drill with coach Ricky Lundell, she drops an inadvertent elbow and gives Roxanne a big black eye. After some apologies, coach Lundell and Sarah reveal their game plan. Unsurprisingly it consists of bringing the fight to the ground and locking up that armbar again. Ronda Rousey stops by the house to show off her tailoring skills, but other than Julianna not getting one and Sarah saying she’ll sell it on eBay, nothing of note happens.

Another break and we’re still at the house and there’s more Team Tate intrigue. Julianna tries to squeeze some information from Roxanne and asks her what she’s been working on with Sarah. Despite taking that elbow to the face, Roxy refuses to talk, citing that it would be a violation of trust. Julianna doesn’t seem to understand and presses more, but Roxy doesn’t budge. Even in her own bedroom Julianna doesn’t catch a break as the tension with roommate Raquel Pennington comes to a head. Raquel complains about making a lot of noise in the morning while she’s trying to sleep. Julianna blames Raquel for staying up late and “dragging” ass. In response, Raquel accuses Julianna of playing the victim card and Julianna loses it (again). She gets so upset she busts out the “Nobody puts baby in the corner,” line. Maybe Miesha can bring in Patrick Swayze as a guest coach to fix things. Roommate drama aside, we finally hear about Julianna’s plans for the fight. Julianna also works on a guillotine choke attempt with Roxanne, but Bryan warns her to be careful when to implement it.

Weigh-in goes on without an issue (other than everyone hoping Julianna loses). Back at the house Bryan and Miesha stop by to check in on everyone, but forget the silly sring this time. Miesha sees that Julianna has shut herself off from the others so she goes upstairs to talk to her. They discuss the charges of favoritism and after being politically savvy the majority of the episode, Miesha is surprisingly candid. She takes Julianna’s side and said she’s not playing favorites, just rewarding the people that deserve it. “You and Holdsworth are the two hardest working people on the team,” she tells her, and that’s why they get the extra attention. Sure sounds like favoritism, doesn’t it? That’s enough of the Team Tate dynamics and it’s finally it’s fight time.

ROUND ONE

Sarah opens the round with a kick, but Julianna answers immediately with heavy punches. Sarah retreats, but Julianna charges forward swinging ferociously. A solid right hand connects and Sarah Moras jumps in to stop the onslaught. They clinch and while Sarah tries to get the takedown, Julianna actually winds up on top. Working from guard, Julianna stacks Sarah up and tries to pass. Sarah’s guard opens, and despite her coach’s pleas for get off the mat and bring it back to the feet, Julianna jumps right back into guard. Sarah keeps angling her hips looking for the armbar, but Julianna does a great job squaring up to prevent Moras from working any offense. Julianna passes to half guard, but Sarah quickly recaptures the full guard. Julianna climbs to her feet, but she again ignores Bryan Caraway’s advice and dives back in with leaping right hand. The punch connects and Julianna moves to side mount. Sarah tries to flip over by pushing off the cage, but Julianna stops it. Julianna drops some short elbows and the round ends with Pena in a dominant ground and pound landing.

ROUND TWO

Julianna wastes no time bringing the fight to Sarah as the second round begins. They soon tie up and lay against the fence. Julianna brings them back to the middle of the cage and drags Sarah to the ground. There’s a brief scramble and Julianna is back in side mount. Julianna is in control and keeps attacking from top position. Sarah tries to slide out the side, but she doesn’t quite finish and finds herself in an even worse position. Sarah eventually gets to her knees and Julianna moves to a front headlock position. They pause briefly and Julianna dives for the guillotine they practiced. Caraway was probably worried, but there’s no cause for concern as Pena secures the tap out with 1:29 left in the round.

There’s some tepid applause from the other housemates, but Dana White and Miesha Tate are pleased. We close out with a sneak peek into next week’s episode.

Who wins the coaches rock climbing challenge? What’s the unexpected turn that will affect the finale? Seriously, can we get a Swayze appearance? Find out this and more next week on The Ultimate Fighter!

The episode begins with Ronda and the other Team Rousey coaches showing up at the house to grill out. The topic of conversation quickly shifts to the upcoming fight between teammates David Grant and Anthony Gutierrez. David submitted Louis Fisette earn his spot in the semifinals, but Cody Bollinger’s inability to make weight gave Anthony a free pass. Gutierrez brushes off people that say he didn’t earn his way saying that he did his job and that he’s only one punch away from making his dream come true. The last time something like that happened, though, was Gabe Ruediger on the fifth season. Assistant coach Manny Gamburyan was one of the finalists on that season and he expresses his disgust with fighters that don’t make weight. “If you can’t make [weight], give other people a chance.”

From there we transition to gym where Team Rousey struggles with the same issues that plagued Team Tate last week. With teammates fighting one another, they’re not sure what role the coaching staff should play. They ultiamtely decide that the coaches will stay out of each guy’s corner completely. They’ll hold pads, but Anthony and David must choose teammates to coach them. Ronda does show one final technique -- her famous armbar. She even challenges her team to show everyone how she does her infamous move because, “I’m going to get it anyway.”

After a break we’re at the Mandalay Bay Events Center for the the coaches challenge. With the neon lights flashing and music blaring, David Grant thinks he’s about to walk into a dance party. I think we can all agree that a “You Got Served” style dance off should have been the best choice (maybe we can see Chael and Wanderlei do it on TUF Brazil 3). Instead of break dancing their way to glory, Miesha and Ronda will have to scale a 50 ft rock climbing wall. Dana lays out the stakes, first person to the top receives $10,000 and $1500 for each member of her team. Not only that, Dana tells the fighters they can have all the beer and energy drinks they want. Interestingly enough, that’s how he lost his first babysitting job.

As the two coaches begin, Ronda gets off to a slight lead. They’re neck and neck for the majority of the race, but Ronda pulls ahead in the final moments and secures the win. Not exactly gracious in victory, Ronda turns to Miesha, yells, “[expletive] you bitch!” and holds her middle fingers out the whole way down. Miesha calls the move “classy” and Ronda responds, “At least I’m up front about it.” Nothing else comes of it as Dana busts out the bag of money and dishes out the greenbacks.

Another break and we’re back at the house. David Grant cant sleep because of all the pressure the big opportunity before him. The topic then shifts to his opponent’s weight. He’s surprised at the amount of junk Anthony consumes, but he won’t let that distract him. Anthony’s eating habits seem to be a topic of conversation in general. Josh Hill and a few others calls his consumption habits irresponsible. Anthony doesn’t really seem to care. This is how he’s done all his previous weight cuts and he’s never had a problem (he’s 151.5 lbs right now). He confesses that he eats, “pretty much whatever I want,” and he’s getting sick of people’s judgmental eyes. He even goes as far to say that they’re dismissive of his dieting because they’re jealous. Haters gon’ hate. Eat that cookie!

One of those judgmental haters is Ronda Rousey. She thinks that Anthony’s way of dealing with weight holds him back and ultimately a detriment to his career. “It’s not about making weight,” she tells him, “it’s how you make the weight.” This causes Anthony to become a bit more agitated. He states that his cardio is the best on the team and wants people to shut up and mind their own business. Did he say this to Ronda’’s face? Of course he didn’t.

We transition back to David Grant and learn more about him. At one time, he was a big DJ in England and used to spin at the biggest clubs in London (his dance party comment makes more sense now). Once he had his kids, though, he cut back on that lifestyle and they’ve helped him maintain focus. He wants his boys to be proud of their dad. In order to accomplish that goal, he plans on outboxing Anthony.

It’s weigh-in day and Anthony is 145.5 lbs and has four hours to get to the 136 lb limit. He climbs in for the Epsom salt bath and realizes that he’s using some of Cody’s old stuff. Is this a sign of things to come? He heads over to the training center and Ronda stops by to check on him. Anthony asks her to just give him some space and she concedes. She tells the camera, “He has his method and his way so I’m sure he’ll be fine.” For someone that usually appears so self-assured confident, Ronda doesn’t seem that confident. They check his weight and he’s 143 lbs with only two hours remaining. Shayna Baszler informs us know while Anthony says he has been strict about his diet the last couple days, he was drinking water last night and even had a NOS this morning on the way to the gym.

The weigh-ins start and Davey clocks in at 135.5 on the scale. Anthony steps up at 140, and has one hour to lose the remaining four pounds. This news appears to be too much for him and he breaks. He keeps muttering how it’s impossible for him to lose the weight, but Ronda doesn’t want him to quit. Even if he can’t do it, he should give it the full hour. Anthony apologizes and walks out. Manny follows him and tries to inspire him to get back in there, but Anthony calls it quits. This angers Manny and he tells him, “You don’t deserve to be here.” Dana interrupts them and brings Anthony in to address the whole cast. Anthony admits, “My priorities weren’t right, I [expletive] a huge opportunity. I’m sorry.” Either blinded by rage or disgust, Dana doesn’t lay into him. He simply says, “Leave.” After Anthony walks out, Dana and Ronda talk in his office. Ronda apologizes and takes takes responsibility for the mess. Dana doesn’t accept it. “You can’t give people heart. He doesn’t have it. That has nothing to do with you. This competition weeds out the weak. He is weak.”

That wraps up the episode on a somber note, but we get a preview into next week’s episode. Who wins the last fight between Jessica Rakoczy and Raquel Pennington? How will injuries affect their performance? Do Anthony and Cody decide to open up their own food truck together? Find out this and more next week on The Ultimate Fighter!
